Universita' degli Studi di Perugia

PROGRAM OVERVIEW
The Direct Enrollment track at the Umbra Institute offers students the unique opportunity to gain a truly immersive experience in Italian culture and in the European style of education. Students will take courses with Italian and international students at both of Perugia’s prestigious universities – the Università per Stranieri and the Università degli Studi di Perugia. Students will apply through the Umbra Institute and benefit from the same services (orientation, safety, cultural activities, etc.) as students enrolled in the other Umbra programs. Students may enroll at the local university for one semester or a full year; each semester involves language review courses at the Università per Stranieri, tutorials and support sessions at the Umbra Institute, and several courses at the Università degli Studi di Perugia.

PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS
Pre-Matriculation Language Review Program:
All students will begin the semester enrolled in an intensive Italian language course for one month prior to starting courses at the Università degli Studi di Perugia. This month is dedicated to improving the language skills of each student and introducing them to the European university setting. Italian language tutorials will be held twice weekly at the Umbra Institute, led by Umbra professors. Students will receive five credits of language study for participation in the advanced language preparatory program. Fall students will attend the September language review program and spring students will attend the January language review program.

Courses Available: Students will be able to select from courses taught in the humanities division of the university or Facolta di Lettere & Filosofia of the Università degli Studi di Perugia. A list of approved courses will be available each semester. Umbra suggests that students typically take 2 courses at the Università degli Studi di Perugia. For an overview of the types of courses offered visit the
UNIPG Facolta di Lettere & Filosofia webpage. There is also a list of courses available on our website under "Courses Offered."

Housing: Students will continue the immersion experience by living with Italian and/or international ERASMUS students in shared apartments. These flatmates will also be attending the Università per Stranieri and/or the Univerisità degli Studi di Perugia. This placement will further improve the language proficiency and immersion process and ensure that Italian is the primary language spoken both at home and at school.  It will also allow students to experience university student life in Italy with peers from the same institutions.

PROFICIENCY & ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Students should have a minimum of four semesters of Italian language courses and have achieved a B2+ proficiency in Italian based on the Common European Framework.
Furthermore, students accepted into the Direct Enrollment track should exhibit exceptional maturity, responsibility, and openess, and a fervent interest in a challenging academic environment. The Direct Enrollment track is designed for students interested in immersing themselves fully in the Italian culture and university educational system.
