Perugia Sister City Scholarship
       


Purpose

The purpose of this scholarship is to further strengthen the close and friendly relations between the Umbra Institute, the City of Perugia and her Sister Cities in the United States by making studying abroad in Perugia more affordable for college and university students who are residents of Grand Rapids, Michigan or Seattle, Washington.

Selection Criteria & Process
The scholarship is offered to current undergraduate college or university students who wish to study abroad at The Umbra Institute in Perugia, for the fall or spring semester or both. Qualifying applicants must be a resident of one of Perugia's two Sister Cities - Grand Rapids or Seattle. Applicants must be in good academic standing with their college or university with a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 GPA and sophomore or higher status.

The Umbra Institute will select the recipient of the scholarship at its sole discretion. In selecting the recipients of the scholarship The Umbra Institute will consider academic and personal qualifications and needs. Residents of Seattle or Grand Rapids studying at an accredited college or university anywhere in the United States are eligible.

Scholarship Provision
The Umbra Institute will offer two (2) partial scholarships annually, one per semester, each worth up to $8,000 (eight-thousand dollars) in the form of a program fee discount. This award is intended to help cover a portion the overall costs of studying at the Umbra Institute in Perugia for a full semester.

Application Procedure and Deadlines
Interested applicants must complete and submit the scholarship application which can be downloaded at the bottom of this page along with their personal essay. The deadline for the Fall semester, June 15th and the deadline for the spring semester is October 15th

Scholarship recipients will be selected immediately after the application deadline for that semester. Winners will be notified by email and postal mail and awarded a $6,500 coupon to apply the tuition and fees at the Umbra Institute. Upon notification of the award, the recipient must then complete the regular application form for semester study at the Umbra Institute. Application Forms will be sent with the award letter.  Recipients must cover the remaining expenses after the scholarship is applied. (See overall cost to recipient below). Only Scholarship winners will be notified.

Overall Costs to the Recipient per Semester
The scholarship is a partial scholarship and will cover up to $8,000 of the following required fees and estimated expenses. Recipients are responsible for the remaining fees, and for their meals, airfare and personal expenses. Fee Breakdown:

Like any overseas program, there are significant travel and personal living expenses beyond the program tuition and fees. The purpose of this scholarship is to bring the overall costs within affordable levels of most college and university students. Scholarship applicants should be aware that this is a partial scholarship, and they are still responsible for the remaining funds.
